How to Structure the Essay
The typical structure of the essay consists of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Many students find it hard to structure the essay because they have the challenge of organizing the information that forms the body of the essay.
Parts of the essay
Content
Introduction
– Presents the topic
– Gives background information
– Gives your thesis statement
Body
– Presents the core arguments and analysis
– Gives evidence to support your main ideas
– Present one main idea in each paragraph
– Each paragraph should have a topic sentence
– All paragraphs must relate to your thesis
Conclusion
– Ties together the main points that were presented in the
body paragraphs
– Shows why the arguments that you presented are valid.
