Prepositions
A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other elements in the sentence. They often indicate location, direction, time, or relationship. Common prepositions include:
- Location: at, in, on, above, below, between
- Direction: to, from, toward, through
- Time: before, after, during, until
- Relationship: of, with, about, for
Prepositional Phrases
A prepositional phrase starts with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun, which is called the object of the preposition. The whole phrase adds details to the sentence by indicating location, time, direction, etc.
- Example:
- At the park – Here, “at” is the preposition, and “the park” is the object.
- During the meeting – “During” is the preposition, “the meeting” is the object.
